Our 5 days Kahuzi Biega, Nyungwe and Akagera Safari take you on an adventure as you explore the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. During this5 days Kahuzi Biega, Nyungwe and Akagera Safari, you will be visiting Kahuzi Biega National Park in Congo for lowland gorilla trekking and then cross back to Rwanda for the canopy walk and chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park and game drive in Akagera National Park.

Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Kahuzi Biega

Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Kahuzi Biega, Nyungwe and Akagera Safari.
Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Kahuzi Biega
Depending on your location in Kigali, our company representative-guide/driver will pick you up and drive for about 7 hours through Nyungwe national park with amazing rolling hill in Rusizi with stopovers for lunch and refreshing. Cross through Cyangugu border to Bukavu town in Democratic Republic of Congo. On arrival at Bukavu, nearest town to Kahuzi Biega, advance to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Lowland Gorilla Trek and Visit Lwiro Sanctuary
After enjoying your breakfast at the lodge, drive to the park headquarters for about 45 minutes for briefing about the Eastern lowland gorillas. You will then set off to your fascinating experience of the lowland gorillas in the valleys of Kahuzi as you encounter different mammals, birds and primates. It’s usually a 1-6 hours’ experience of the jungle, depending on their movement while watching them interact/play with each other as you take photos and videos.
You will then descend back to base and have lunch. Later you will visit Lwiro Sanctuary where you will visit the rescued chimpanzees and other primates that are being rehabilitated at the center. Once these gentle creatures have been fully rehabilitated, they are always released back to their natural habitats.
Meet up with your driver to drive back to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe and Visit the Canopy Walkway Bridge
Breakfast will be served at your hotel. You will cross back to Rwanda and proceed with your drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Upon your arrival in Nyungwe, you will embark on a guided hike to and from the canopy walkway bridge- a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. This hike takes about 2 hours to and from the canopy walkway bridge. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before night fall, you will return to the hotel for lunch and spend the rest of your evening relaxing.
Alternatively, you can choose to spend your evening visiting the tea estate in Gisakura or an afternoon hike in the park.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trek and Transfer Back to Kigali
You will have an early morning breakfast then report to the park headquarters in Nyungwe forest for briefing before going for chimpanzee tracking. However, it is advisable to organize packed lunch and plenty of water prior to this expedition since it can sometimes last over 6 hours.
In the forest, you will not only see chimpanzees to but also variety of animals and birds like the Rwenzori Turaco, black and white casqued horn bill, colobus monkeys – sometimes as many as 400 individuals in a group.
Have lunch and drive back to Kigali where you will be dropped off at your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Visit Akagera National Park for a Game Drive and Transfer Back to Kigali.
Set off from Kigali at 5am and drive to Akagera national park. Upon your arrival at the park, you will embark on a guided game drive in the northern part of the park. Look out for wildlife such as; elephants, lions, leopard, giraffes, rhinos and so many more. You will have a break for lunch at Akagera Game Lodge then continue with your game drive.
You will later drive back to Kigali where your driver guide will drop you off at a location of your choice as you will advise.
