Detailed Itinerary for 7 Days Rwanda Uganda Wildlife and Gorilla Safari
Day 1: Pick Up and Transfer to Akagera National Park
On your first day with us according to this itinerary you will be met by our representative who will pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Kigali. You will be taken for a short city tour where you will visit the Rwanda genocide memorial grounds, some craft shops and your driver guide will give you some information on the culture and history of Rwanda.
After having your lunch, you will embark on your 2-3-hour drive to Akagera National Park where upon your arrival in the park, you will embark on a game drive in the southern part of the national park. Look out for wildlife like lions, leopards, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, elephants and so many more.
Retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Northern Akagera
After your breakfast, you will head out for a full day of game viewing in the northern section of Akagera national park which has a wide concentration of wildlife including the Big Five like savannah elephants, buffalos, rhinos, lions and leopard. You will have a break for lunch at your lodge before heading back out for another game drive in the park.
Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Ruhengeri.
After having breakfast at your lodge, you will embark on your journey to from Akagera to Volcanoes National Park. You will also have lunch enroute to the park. Upon your arrival in the park, you will check in at your lodge, rest and prepare for the trek the next morning. This journey will be approximately three hours’ drive from Kigali to Ruhengeri. Dinner and Overnight at your selected lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Trek and Afternoon visit to Ibyi’wacu Village
As early at 6am, you will be expected to be up for breakfast and ready to set off for the gorilla trek. Our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the gorilla trek.
This brief is done at 7am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This gorilla trek can take to about 2 hours to half a day as it’s unpredictable. When you finally find the gorillas, you will have to maintain a 6 meters’ distance and you are allowed one hour to admire and take photos of the gorillas.
After the trek, you will return back to the lodge for relaxation and reminisce on the experience or you can ask the guide in case you want to have another activity in the evening where you will go for an Ibyi’wacu Cultural tour which is located near the national park. Get to watch dance and singing performances from the local intore dance troupe. Dinner and overnight will be at the same hotel as the night before
Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking
As early at 6am, you will be expected to be up for breakfast and ready to set off for the golden monkey trek. Our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the gorilla trek.
This brief is done at 7am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This golden monkey trek can take to about 2 hours to half a day as it’s unpredictable. When you finally find the golden monkey family, you will have to maintain a 6 meters’ distance and you are allowed one hour to admire and take photos of these playful primates.
After your trek, you will head back to your lodge for lunch and spend the rest of your evening relaxing at leisure. Later dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park
After breakfast on the third day of the 7 Days Rwanda Uganda Wildlife and Gorilla safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start the journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park passing through Cyanika border in Kisoro. On the way you will enjoy great views of rolling hills in Rwanda, terraced farmlands, beautiful scenery among others. Upon arrival in the park you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park and departure to Kigali
After an early breakfast on the last day of the safari, you will check out of the lodge, carry your packed lunch from the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking.
After the briefing you will start trekking in the park which takes about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will be able to view other primate species, different plant species, birds among others.
Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to observe their habits, behaviors, watch gorillas feed, breastfeed, groom young ones, take photos and record the breathtaking moments.
After the one-hour encounter with the gentle giants you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be rewarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and then meet up with your driver guide to transfer back to Kigali.
On the way you will enjoy great views of the Kigezi hills, countryside, terraced farmlands and upon arrival in Kigali your driver guide will drop you off at Kigali international airport for your departure flight or drop you off at your lodge in Kigali depending on your schedule.
