Detailed Itinerary for 10 Days Congo and Uganda Gorilla Safari from Kigali.
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Congo
When you arrive at Kigali International Airport, your driver guide will meet you. He will inform you on the entire trip before driving to Congo at Bukavu Town. You will then check into your hotel to prepare for the next day’s activities.
Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Bukavu.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Biega National Park
After enjoying your breakfast at the lodge, drive to the park headquarters for about 45 minutes for briefing about the Eastern lowland gorillas. You will then set off to your fascinating experience of the lowland gorillas in the valleys of Kahuzi as you encounter different mammals, birds and primates. It’s usually a 1-6 hours’ experience of the jungle, depending on their movement while watching them interact/play with each other as you take photos and videos
You will then descend back and meet up with your driver to drive back to your hotel for Dinner and overnight at hotel as night before.
Day 3: Transfer from Congo to Uganda
After having breakfast at your hotel, you will meet up with your driver and embark on a full day transfer to Mgahinga National Park in Uganda via the Rwanda- Uganda border at Cyanika. You will have a few stopovers to have lunch and stretch. Arrive at your lodge in the evening and later have dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Golden monkey trekking in Mgahinga and transfer to Bwindi
On this day, you will go to the park headquarters after breakfast. You will be briefed about golden monkey trekking. Then, accompany the ranger into the jungle in pursuit of the golden monkeys. After some time, you’ll locate these lovely primates in the bamboo jungle. enjoy their company for an hour while you examine their behavior. Golden monkeys are quite lively; therefore, you will not be able to sit still for long while studying them.
Then, return to the starting place for lunch. After some rest, we out for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Check into your lodge for supper and overnight.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking experience
Breakfast will be served early and lunch will be packed. The briefing is at 7 am. Your guide will give you highlights of specific details about the way of life of the gorillas you will be tracking. The hike can take anything from one to seven hours.
Trekking through the steep, bamboo slopes and then finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring and privileged moment. Once you reach the gorillas, you are allowed to spend one hour with them as you stand 6 meters away. Upon completion of this magical encounter, you will connect again with your driver / guide and transfer back to your lodge. Dinner and overnight stay same as previous night.
Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park and Ishasha game drive
After breakfast, set off to explore Queen Elizabeth National Park. Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s second-most visited national park. It is also home to the renowned tree-climbing lions.
After around 4 to 5 hours on the journey, you will travel through the Ishasha Sector. You may observe tree-climbing lions here if you are lucky. After arriving at the park, you will have a game drive to see various wildlife species. After that, you will transfer to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Game Drive and Boat cruise on Kazinga channel
Get up early and get breakfast before embarking on the incredible early morning Game Drive. During your game drive, you will witness several amazing animal species. African elephants, lions, buffaloes, antelopes, and impalas are a few examples. Birds have also been observed in the park, and on a good day, leopards may be seen. Following the wildlife drive, you will return to the resort to unwind. Refresh and prepare for the Boat Cruise at 2 p.m.
Proceed with the boat cruise excursion, and you are required to board the boat at exactly 2 p.m. You will witness a variety of animal species while cruising on the Kazinga Channel. They’ll have come to cool off and drink water during the hottest hours of the day. You’ll witness buffaloes, hippos, and crocodiles along the channel’s banks. As a result of its large chimpanzee population, it was dubbed the “Primates Capital of the World.” You will arrive in the afternoon and then you will visit Fort Portal as you enjoy the views and sounds of the Crater Lakes and the Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru. Later, transfer to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Chimpanzee trekking and Visit Bigodi Swamp Visit
Wake up early today and have your breakfast before heading out. Then, go to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and water for a briefing before embarking on the Chimpanzee trekking tour. Later, you will accompany your ranger guide as you travel through the forest. It will take 2-5 hours to locate the chimpanzees depending on their location.
You’ll be seeking for chimpanzees that are unfamiliar with human presence. When you meet them, you will have 4 hours to spend in their presence. Observe their behavior, snap photographs, and discover more about the chimpanzees. After the chimpanzee habituation procedure, which takes the entire day, you will return to your lodge for the evening.
Day 10: Transfer to Kampala or Entebbe
On the final day of the 10 Days Congo & Uganda Gorilla Safari from Kigali, you will journey to Entebbe International Airport, stopping for lunch along the route. This travel takes around 6-7 hours, and you will arrive late in the evening to eat supper before being dropped off at the airport for your departure.
