3 days Tchegera Island Retreat is a standalone Virunga safari package but can also be added at the end of every safari package offered in Virunga national park. The Virunga national park is one of the most visited gorilla homes and is located in the eastern part of the DR Congo. The Virunga national park offers a big number of safaris from which you can choose from.

The Virunga national park offers mountain gorilla trekking, hiking up the active volcanic mountain, the Mount Nyiragongo, chimpanzee habituation process, safari walks and also an island retreat at the Tchegera Island.

The Tchegera Island is a U shaped black sand island that guests opt to visit to relax and enjoy the cool breeze of Lake Kivu. While on this island, guests can be involved in a number of island activities like snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, nature walks, picnic or just opt to enjoy the Tchegera Island resort.

Trip Description

Day 1: Goma-Bolengo (Boat transfer)

Depending on your location in Goma or even Kigali, the driver guide will be waiting to pick you up for these 3 days Tchegera Island Retreat. You will drive to the Bolengo port where you will find the speed boat headed to the Tchegera Island. This is a 30 minute speed boat and you will arrive at the resort in time for lunch.

You will enjoy your luxurious lunch and after settle in your hotel room. The Tchegera Island has a luxury resort called the Tchegera Island Retreat and this is where you will be spending the next few nights.

Day 2: Tchegera Island Retreat

This day will be a leisure day where you will enjoy the resort and take on some island activities like snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, nature walks, picnic or just opt to enjoy the Tchegera Island resort.

You may have a picnic lunch on this day and spend the evening at the terrace reading a book or watching the sunset. There is a blue monkey that tends to visit the island occasionally and you may be lucky to experience this. You will spend your second night at the Tchegera Island Retreat

Day 3: Transfer back to Bolengo

Wake up for your last day at the resort to a sumptuous breakfast. You will after breakfast pack your belongings to board the speed boat headed back to Goma. On arrival to Bolengo port, you may opt for drop off in Goma or drive further to Kigali for drop off at your preferred destination.
