Detailed Itinerary for 10 Days Rwanda & Congo Safari.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Arrival in Kigali: Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or at pick up from your hotel, our guide will welcome you and transfer to Kigali city and depending on the time of your arrival; you will go for a short city tour with in Kigali and visit the genocide memorial site. Dinner and overnight stay at Step Town Motel / Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Transfer to Nyungwe: After a morning breakfast on the second day of your 10 Days Rwanda Safari, you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route, you will pass through wonderful and magnificent hills and cultivated countryside. Have a stopover at the royal King’s Palace in Nyanza for a cultural description about the history of Rwanda. Continue and visit the cultural museum at Rwesero. Proceed and reach Butare town where you will have lunch after lunch you will visit the Rwanda National Museum for a tour around the site.
Proceed and reach the Park late afternoon. Upon arrival you will visit the new Visitor’s Interpretive Centre to give you more information about the park such as number of primate species found in the park, types of bird species and other tourist activities carried out with in the Park. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House/ Nyungwe Top Hill View.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
Chimpanzee Trekking: You will have an early morning breakfast then report to the park headquarters in Nyungwe forest for briefing before going for chimpanzee tracking. However, it is advisable to organize packed lunch and plenty of water prior to this expedition since it can sometimes last over 6 hours. In the forest, you will not only see chimpanzees to but also variety of animals and birds like the Rwenzori Turaco, black and white casqued horn bill, colobus monkeys – sometimes as many as 400 in a group. Return to your lodge for lunch and relax for a while.

Canopy Walk: After your lunch break, drive to the park for an afternoon hike along the renowned Canopy Walkway-a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you there after drive back to your hotel. Return for dinner and Overnight at same hotel as above.
Day 4: Transfer to Akagera & Evening Game Drive
Transfer to Akagera: Start you morning with delightful breakfast at your hotel. You will then check out of your hotel and transfer to Akagera National Park, which is approximately a 5-6 hours’ drive to the park. Upon your arrival in the park, check into your lodge and have lunch.
Evening Game Drive: Later in the evening, you will proceed for a game drive where you will view lots of wildlife in the park such as elephants, duikers, impala, waterbuck, lions, leopard, zebras, rhinos, giraffes, and buffalos among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and Overnight at Akagera Game Lodge/ Rusizi Tented Camp.
Day 5: Morning Game Drive & Sunset Boat Cruise.
Morning Game Drive: Have breakfast at your lodge at proceed for a morning game drive at the park. You will have an opportunity to view other animals at you might have missed sighting during your first game drive. After your morning game drive, proceed to your lodge for lunch and rest for a while.
Sunset Boat Cruise: After you have rested enough, you will proceed for an evening boat cruise on Lake Ihema. During the boat cruise, you can spot numerous wildlife and bird species within and around the lake including hippos, elephants, crocodiles and birds like Northern Brown-throated Weaver; Papyrus Gonolek; White-Winged Swamp Warbler; Carruthers’s Cisticola, White-collared Oliveback, and Grey-crowned Cranes among others. Head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight as previous night.
Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes & Iby’iwacu Village Tour.
Transfer to Volcanoes & Iby’iwacu Village Tour: After breakfast, you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park where you will embark on a cultural tour to the famous Iby’iwacu Village. The village is located just outside the national park and mostly has reformed poachers as its inhabitants. You will be welcomed by cheerful traditional songs and dance performances from the local intore dance group. Dinner and overnight at Muhabura Lodge/ Le Bambou/ Five Volcanoes.
Day 7: Transfer to Gisenyi & cross over to Congo.
Transfer to Gisenyi & Cross to Congo: Wake up early in the morning and drive to Gisenyi town from where you will cross into Goma in Congo. Check in with the tourism office strategically located at the Grand Barrier border Post to receive Gorilla and Volcano permit that’s to be presented at the beginning of every trek. There after you will be transfer to Kibumba tented camp just near the trailhead of Nyiragongo volcano. Dinner and overnight at Kibumba Tented Camp (Budget).

Day 8: Ascend to Nyiragongo
Ascend Nyiragongo: Prepare for early morning breakfast as you will are expected at the headquarters by 8am.
Meet your ranger guide, a porter and begin your hike. Meals will be provided and you will stay overnight in wooden shelter at the top.
Please note that your Rwanda Visa will expire after crossing into Congo so you will apply for another immediately and you will find it ready on return.
Day 9: Descend Mount Nyiragongo and Transfer to Gisenyi.
Descend Mount Nyiragongo: This morning, you will descend the Volcano and head down to Kibati by 11:00am. Here, you will connect with your driver / guide and transfer to Gisenyi – a marvelous tourist town that offers visitors beautiful and excellent views of Lake Kivu. It’s a great place to relax while feeling its waterfront and sandy beaches. You will have lunch and then spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing or visit the host springs which will help you learn more about the formation of the Virunga Volcanic Mountains. Alternatively you can also visit the local projects in the area and interact with project members or visit the local artisans and a local women’s weaving association. Overnight in Gisenyi town at Paradise Malahide.
Day 10: Transfer Back to Kigali.
Have your breakfast early in the morning and later embark on your return journey back to Kigali City. Depending on your departure flight time, you will be able to do a city tour visiting the Genocide memorial site in Kigali and Caplaki crafts village for souvenir shopping and drop off at the airport for your flight back home. End of Tour.
